In our more than 35 examination/rehabilitation rooms we undertake general and specific checks to reach diagnoses and treat ocular pathologies.

FISABIO-Medical Ophthalmology boasts the latest technology equipment (complementary measuring and exploration devices) ranging from a state-of-the-art multi-focal electrophysiology system to diagnose and monitor complex retinal and optical nerve-related pathologies to advanced ocular surface study systems and different types of lasers to tackle retinal pathologies, glaucoma or refractive errors.

In the rehabilitation rooms, our technicians aim to enhance the potential vision of each patient and so improve their quality of living, independence and social integration. Rehabilitation sessions are intended for the patients to try out the alternatives proposed by the ophtalmologist and the low vision optometrist (light sensitivity filters, loupes, electronic aids, eccentric viewing exercises, etc) so that they can value -and fend for- themselves.

OPERATING ROOMS

The surgical area comprises three zones:
•    Pre-theatre: Prior to surgery, patients are prepared and undergo locoregional anesthesia techniques.
•    Operating theatres
•    URPA (or PACU: PostAnesthesia Care Unit), where nursing staff and the anesthesiologist supervise the patient's post-operative recovery.

Operating Theatre 1:  Anterior and posterior pole as well as oculoplastic and lacrimal gland surgery. For retinal repair operations,  it incorporates a microscope with a non-contact wide-field  Office lens system.

Operating theatre 2: Anterior pole, glaucoma and strabismus surgery. Endowed with laminar flow ventilation to provide the highest level of sterility that is required in a corneal transplantation.

Operating theatre 3: Anterior pole, glaucoma and oculoplasty. Lacrimal gland surgeries will be assisted by an otorhinolaryngologist along with the latest laser and endoscopic techniques.

Operating theatre 4: Anterior pole, retinal and oculoplastic surgeries. Equipped with a BioRN system and a late generation Constellation system to perform vitreoretinal operations.

Operating theatre 5: Refractive surgery. Fitted with Excimer laser MEL-70, Intralase and crosslinking techniques are carried out.

LABORATORIES

The main concern of our laboratories is to deepen the understanding/increase the knowledge of the biological bases that lie under the ocular diseases with a higher clinical prevalence through a number of biochemical and cell propagation methods. The ultimate goal is the discovery of new targets allowing the development of new therapeutic strategies so as to improve the patient's quality of living and counteract the course of their illness.

The FOM's laboratory is equipped with the latest technical innovations to support our research team. Facilities boast the latest technological advances in the field of genetic analysis and fluorescent detection of different molecules by means of confocal techniques.

MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT PLAN

In order to achieve a high quality healthcare, FISABIO-Oftalomología Médica establishes a single centralized system that runs and coordinates all the elements that form the building with the aid of a computer tool based on a flexible and open system. Its main purposes are, on the one hand, the optimal use of resources; and, on the other hand, a suitable, reliable and efficient assitance.

Accordingly, the FOM's computer system is a programme observing the Generalitat Valenciana (regional government)'s  Healthcare Information System and facilitates the use of all those concepts concerning the optimization of the elements a hospital is made up of:

•    Clinical and medical attention records, which include clinical and healthcare processes, diagnostic tests and treatments to evolve towards a more paper-free health center, at all events interconnected with the computer systems of the regional Department of Health.
•    Logistical, economic and general services management.
•    Control and maintenance management.

The aim is to maximize our equipment's efficiency and attain a good level of energy control adapted to the real needs of each facility. Thus, the installation of a remote control system for the air conditioning  has resulted in significant power savings (since we are able to modify the temperature of common areas, offices and surgeries with the possibility to regulate the volume of fresh outdoor air according to the amount of patients).

Implementation of smart operating rooms with laminar flow air conditioning has enabled us to adjust into -and make the most of- the surgical regulations, which has reduced energy consumption and provided healthcare staff with resources that are necessary to do their job efficiently.
